Medical Shenanigans

Dad has a “Cancer Only” insurance policy. When the clinic submitted his biopsy for coverage, they didn’t pay because it wasn’t “cancer related.”

Apparently “biopsy” in insurance-speak means “went out for coffee and read the paper.”*

*They re-submitted it and Dad got a refund of 79 dollars. I have to assume that the biopsy was a lot more than 79 dollars because when I go in just to talk to a doctor they charge me 150 bucks. If a “cancer-only” policy is that skimpy about covering what is, as far as I know, ONLY cancer related (I’ve never heard of a biopsy for high blood pressure or diabetes) it simply re-affirms all my general misgivings about insurance companies in toto.

Hi Q, Just to let you know, the insurance guys just sent me another check for $142! much to my surprise. Needless to say I deposited it right away, to forestall any change of mind/heart. Maybe it’s not a scam after all. Maybe. Perhaps. Remote possibility. Love, Dad
