Ill-conceived pitchmen redux

Blearily changing the bun’s diapers, I noticed Baby Big Bird on the front of his Pampers. Utilized for the cause of the “Back to Sleep” campaign (educating parents to put their kids to sleep on their backs to avoid SIDS), I’m sure he’s supposed to be sleeping peacefully. Unfortunately, he looks dead. Especially with those purple eyelids.

Looking at all of the pictures, the entire cast of Sesame Street seems to be in varying degrees of morbidity. Maybe this isn’t a reminder about “Back to Sleep,” maybe it’s a prophetic message to the parents: “This is what will happen the first few months of parenthood. What doesn’t kill you will only make you look dead.”

ETA: Baby Bert looks deranged. It’s not just Sesame Street’s physical health we need to be concerned with.
