This year is off to a very sad start. I wrote a long entry about another tragedy that struck, this time much closer to home, but chose to nix it because it seemed too personal.

A young cousin of mine died the other day, and I am bowled over. Sweet, quiet and brainy, she was loved well by one of the kindest, most generous families I have ever had the chance to meet. The unanswered questions that arose about a young bartender’s death a couple of days ago are even more urgent and unknowable for Cassie, and I hope that the family takes solace in the great love that they have surrounded themselves with, and can hang onto each other and help each other through one of the worst events a family can face.

May there be peace for the whole family. I’m so terribly, terribly sorry.
